With long stay travel insurance, your holiday doesn’t have to stop at a fortnight. We can cover trips of up to a whole year, whether you’re planning to travel the world or spend a season on the slopes.
What is long stay insurance and do you need it?
Long stay travel insurance is designed to cover your longer-than-average holiday, whether an extended 3-week stay or an epic round-the-world trip. This type of insurance also covers solo and group trips.
However, long stay travel insurance isn’t the same as annual travel insurance, which covers you for multiple trips during the year, rather than one long trip.
Long stay travel insurance is ideal for travellers who:
- Want to explore multiple countries for longer: Long stay travel insurance is ideal if you’re planning to hop between destinations during your long trip. Whether it’s wandering through the historic streets of European capitals like Paris and Rome, or soaking up the culture in Vietnam and Cambodia, long stay insurance keeps you covered for longer
- Are looking for cover for a range of sports and activities: All of our long stay travel insurance policies include cover for over 100 activities. From snorkelling in tropical Caribbean waters to hiking up Machu Picchu, you’ll be able to tackle any activity knowing you’re covered.

What’s not covered?
There are some situations that travel insurance will not cover. For example:
- Claims for events or reasons which took place before you booked the trip or purchased insurance. Insurance exists to cover unexpected events outside of the insured’s control
- Claims which are less than the excess for that section of cover. For example, you cannot claim a £40 lost item if your baggage excess is £60
- All our long stay travel insurance policies include cover for cancellation of your trip, but there may be some exclusions. For example, you won’t be covered to cancel if you simply decide not to go
We will consider all pre-existing medical conditions. Find out more about medical travel insurance.
The excess and amount of cover available varies depending on the level of travel insurance you buy. Check the policy wording to see the full terms and conditions.
Further items and activities can be added to your travel insurance policy, making sure you are covered for your specific needs.

Long stay insurance with pre-existing medical conditions cover
Regardless of the duration of your trip, we’ll consider any pre-existing medical conditions. However, as with all policies, to be covered for your long stay you must declare any pre-existing condition you’re living with. Even if it’s a minor one. Failing to do so may result in your policy becoming invalid.
We might even be able to include your condition at no extra cost, although this depends on your condition and where you’re travelling to.
